Memorable times from Brussels, Bruges and Amsterdam.
BRUSSELS
The pissing boy that made Brussels (in)famous.
1 euro Belgian waffles! Obviously it would have been better with toppings but the price would have increased exponentially. Just adding strawberries would cost 3.50 euros more!
Oh yeah baby. Sometimes au natural is best. Crisp & fluffy, it was sweet and good on its own :D
Mini-Europe and the Atomium. Touristy but sometimes, you just have to be a tourist and do the touristy stuff
At least the view of Brussels from the top of the Atomium was rewarding
BRUGESMedieval houses with gabled roofs, typical of Flanders architecture. Taken in the Market Square.
Chocolate Festival 2011 @ the Belfry! Free-tasting = unleash Singaporean habits and chiong freebies. No shame. Awesome pralines, hot chocolate and deep dark rich chocolate fondue were just some of the highlights. There were so much free chocolate that I had to 'da bao' some of the pieces, savoring them for later. Some are sitting in the fridge now!
Chocolate art using fully edible chocolate ink. 100% agree with the slogan.
Hot chocolate taster. Yum.
Back at Brussels, spaghetti bolognese for dinner at La Canardière, Rue Stassart. Yes, bolognese, because I hadn't had any other choice. Others were ham or cream-based pesto, which I didn't feel like having. The beef was very fine and the sauce hearty. On a cold night, it was satisfying, comfort food.
AMSTERDAM
'Iamsterdam' signifier at Museumplein in front of the Rijksmuseum. Didn't take a photo with it because it was late and we were rushing to go to the Van Gogh Museum. Cost of living in Amsterdam is, I daresay, higher than London, with each museum charging their own admission fee at an exorbitant price.
Red Light District near Centraal at night. Passed some shops with prostitutes in nothing more than pieces of cloth covering the essential bits, trying to lure customers in. I heard they make big bucks though.
Anne Frank house on day 2
River view near Prinsengracht (Prince's canal)
Sinterklaas parade which we never saw as we had to leave for the free walking tour
Dutch pancakes - mushroom - to end the trip! It was kind of spongy, not too eggy or heavy. I like!
Meanwhile as the temperature dips in London, I'm holing myself up in my [cold] room, a good thing as I need to slow things down and study.
