To test out the capabilities of the TZ20 full HD video, I decided to make a vlog with popped amaranth as the subject. It's my first vlog and my first time using iMovies, so pardon me for the amateurish video. I had great fun popping the amaranth and editing the video. Better still if it had music, but alas, I'm too lazy to add that in. Enjoy!
If you want to know more about amaranth, I've blogged about it on my previous blog. Ashley over at The Edible Perspective is the queen of popped amaranth. Check out her site for more detailed instructions and beautiful shots of the little poppers. You can use a saucepan with a lid to avoid the mess which is a real headache to clean up, but I find that stirring the amaranth with a wooden spoon distributes the heat more evenly than shaking it while lidded; I'd rather clean up than have a bunch of burnt black and wasted amaranth seeds.
Breakfast this morning was a simpleton: popped amaranth w soy milk & fresh strawberries, with cin, nutmeg & vanilla, and topped w raspberry jam & raw almond butter. Yummers bummers.
yay at least my tefal is being put to good use. it looks like popcorn! so what do you do with all the amaranth thats been popped out of e pan? scoop it up and eat?
ReplyDeleteI use it as cereal. Like with soymilk or yogurt. It has a lovely toasty smell and lovely toasty taste. And really fun to pop too except for cleaning up. If you get the chance to find amaranth, you should try it! I think popping corn would be the same too except you need oil to pop corn but not amaranth. If you can't find raw amaranth, they do sell puffed ones already in the stores. Just that you won't have the fun of popping them.
ReplyDeletegood sunday morn wabster.
ReplyDeletecould you help me find out what's the price of an electronic weighing scale and a food processor/blender? do we have a blender already at home? i wish to make pesto. but i dunch know if its worth it to get it here. i mean after all i wish to bring it home upon graduation. and it will be an aus plug.
mebbe at like cold storage if they do sell? i'm sure taka/tangs will be more ex.
no probs can help u find out. We have both electric blender and hand-held immersion blender. If you're making pesto, food processor would be better; blender is more for large volume things like smoothies and shakes cos the blades are at the bottom. If u make pesto in the blender all the basil leaves will fly up and get stuck and u need to keep scraping down. The blades in food processor are at the side which is good for chopping/pureeing food. We don't have a food processor and I've wanted one for a long time to make nut butters!
ReplyDeleteI doubt CS sell and their things are ex anyway. I'll go check tangs or harvey norman or courts :)
