Things have taken a new turn. Now my rib bones are hurting so badly that I can't even walk properly, much less muster a decent cough to expel phlegm. This certainly does not bode well since the phlegm would then accumulate and might cause chest infection (bacteria) and even denigrate to pneumonia. The acute, physical effects of sore ribs are pretty bad too; because I can't cough, there's no relief for the dry, itchy throat, which leaves me gasping and grasping for air. On the reverse, if I try to muster a tiny cough to soothe the throat, my ribs feel as though they might tear apart and crack, even before I make the cough (at the point of muscle contraction).
I'm now taking so many forms of medications and liquids from Western to TCM I don't know if they have contraindications at all.
