5 Unwinding with durians

Finally, the end of a super long tiring week.

I didn't even know I had a doctor's appointment today, until I got home and Mum went, "You've got to go in 5 minutes." What a shocker. The appointment went almost as usual. Gained about 1 kg since pre-Cambodia, but that may have been due to water weight (I was kind of needing to go to the toilet when I took my weight). Doc said I needed to up my fats, either directly or through increasing carb (which will then convert into fats). But the latter is not a highly feasible option given that most carbs would be converted into proteins (more essential for the body) before fats. Anyhow, I got a new prescription - vit B compelx.

At Bugis Village, mum bought a $30 packet of mao shan wang. Was the price justified? You bet! I daresay was the most creamy, lightest and yet potent mao shan wang I had ever, almost like a souffle!

Hmmm... ideas coming to mind with durian recipes!

Carbs will convert to fats before protein?? That’s something new. After reading through all my nutrition blogs, I never came across such stuff ! I always thought excess of carbs will be converted to fats.. and protein is by itself. According to the Paleo Diet, I should be taking majority of my energy from fat sources and they recommend saturated fats, like ghee ! good lord. Hahaha. And butter, full cream milk etc. Intermittent fasting is becoming part and parcel of my weekly routine now, doing it 2x weekly. The good thing? On the other days that I eat, I really really love eating. Its almost like, a new experience. But I realize something when I fast – my toungue sorts of get weird.. like its coated with something and my lips will be sort of uncanny.

  2. p.s. there's lots of variations of Intermittent Fasting (IF) but I find it easier to do full 24hr fasts. Sometimes people do it in a window period. On other days, I try to consume more, (just not to have a caloric defecit) maybe a little, coz I need to cut down on body fat % to show those abs.

I'm also reading a book by John Piper, 'A Huger For God' and it speaks on spiritual fasting - it sorts of links it together since I'm fasting but I'm ashamed to say my purpose for fasting is leaning more towards health rather than God !

  3. Ahh... back to biochemistry again. All carbs will go through glycolysis and TCA cycle and form intermediates that serve as amino acid precursors. It involves many complicated reactions (see e.g. this website http://themedicalbiochemistrypage.org/amino-acid-metabolism.php). The metabolic pathways of carbs, fats and proteins converges at some point or another, so intermediates can always be diverted to another pathway as required by the body.

I would like to try IF one day, although it is probably not a very good idea now. Sometimes by just eating less than normal for two days or so, I can literally few "lighter" and know that I lost weight. =( Maybe u can drink more water to get rid of that funny feeling on your tongue (although I'm quite sure u drink lots of h20 already, haha!)

Opened the jar of almond butter yet?

  4. Oh wow !!

I truly am enlightened :D All these months of reading up on nutrition, blogs kept telling me how proteins will convert into carbs (hence you don’t need much carbs) should there be a lack of glucose via gluconeogenesis but never the other way round ! but I guess these blogs are highly advocating high fats/protein diets hence they sorta biased towards carbs.

Yes of coz I’ve opened the almond butter. Lovely. And I tried the Justins Hazelnut choc yesterday (: Yeah, better not attempt IF now. Perhaps when your weight is under control. Right now, you should be enjoying every rich food as much as possible / you can take it !

Enjoy this opportunity (: Not many people are as lucky as you (if you see it from another perspective)
